Ah, I see thank you for explaining it.

Re: Notary records

Thank you! Based on your advice, I found this entry of what I believe to be indices of Notarys working in Catania since 1415: http://www.archivi-sias.it/Scheda_Complesso.asp?FiltraComplesso=300082208

I am not sure what I need to do next. Do I need to create an account so that I can log in? Or, is ...

Notary records

I am looking to fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle for the years 1400-1800. Could someone help me get started researching the notarial records of Sicily?

What I would like help with is where exactly I can find them (Are they available online? Held only in archives in Sicily? Not available to ...

Accent marks

Hello, do accent marks (or lack of them) matter to the consulates when they compare records. For example, if Italian certificates contain grave mark in a surname, would it matter or not whether US records contain the surname without the grave mark? Or, is it understood that with or without the mark ...

Re: future applications by a parent

Yes, we will likely be applying in different countries, so different consulates. I am intrigued by the idea of him applying in Italy though as it is my intention to live there if my application is successful. He is retired so he could establish residence in Italy by simply staying with me. I will ...

Re: future applications by a parent

If you are dealing with the same consulate, the records will be on file and can be accessed. If not, you should check with the specific consulate.

Keep in mind that your parent, even if in the citizenship line, will not be recognized unless he specifically applies.

Ok, so only the records at ...

future applications by a parent

Hello, I am curious, if I am successful with my petition to be acknowledged as an Italian citizen, and a couple years later my parent (in the Italian line I claimed through) wishes to petition. Will the necessary records (aside from the naturalization ones) now be at the comune? What I mean is, will ...

Italian record request

Hello, I am preparing to request official copies of three records (two birth records and one marriage). I and two relatives are all preparing jure sanguinis petitions and wonder if we would be doing the comune a favor by combining our requests instead of sending three identical requests. I already ...

jure sanguinis eligibility

Hello, I am confident that I am eligible but confused on whether my cousin is.

- Our great grandparents were born in Italy in 1860s/1870s. They immigrated to the US in 1913.
- Our grandfather was born in 1914 in the US.
- Our great grandfather never naturalized, and passed away in the 1930s.
- Our ...

Re: Woman's name

That last one looks like a very old record 16th-17th century? Common to see -ella or -nella as a suffix on a female's name

Yes, you are correct, it's from 1553. The child's name definitely ends in 'inella'. I was just wondering if anyone could explain what 'Cara dia' is and whether it's also the ...
