Re: Naming conventions for children born out of wedlock
Thanks, Pippo
Every following record has said Luttovenera, so that’s the spelling I’m going with. Appreciate it!

Hi Are you able to post the record that you are referring to so that we can look at it. Angela Yes. Orti (Reggio Calabria) Nati 1823, Record #13 http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Reggio+Calabria/Stato+civile+della+restaurazione/Orti/Nati/1823/007693854_00380.jpg.html?g2...

Naming conventions for children born out of wedlock
I'm doing a relative's family history and came across a person whose parentage is listed as "padre incognito". A little more research showed that the mother was not married at the time of the child's birth. The child was given a different surname than that of the mother, and I'm wondering ...

Re: Confirm birth month and day
Neither. The birth record lists May 11 1884 as the date of birth. The birth was recorded on the dodici (12th) of maggio (May). In the second block, it says "..dichiarato che alle ore antimeridiane una e minuti quindici, del di undici del sudetto mese..." which translates to "...witnes...

Re: The mystery of Natale Calabrese
We can't be sure, but I'd hypothesize they are the same person 1) Antonino might be the "civil" name, and Domenico "baptismal" name 2) marriage dates are very near and, at that time, civil and religious marriages took place separately 3) It often happened that parents "forg...

The mystery of Natale Calabrese
Hello, I believe I have a great-uncle named Natale Calabrese, born on 2 February 1875 to Domenico Calabrese and Carmela Neri. I found his parish birth record and his parish marriage record to Santa Ieracitano on 2 October 1904. However, I cannot find those records in the Stato Civile. What I did fin...

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
Thanks
Back to my original question - is there any way to see an index if it's not digitized online? I understand that the parish in Orti Superiori lost its records before a certain date, but there's got to be a master archive of the Stato Civile, right?

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
Tessa, Yes, of course, birth act. I was searching through marriage processetti at the time and typed the wrong thing. I find often that the listed age for people is.... somewhat variable and I don't really use it except as a barometer to determine where I should start looking for their birth records...

@Tessa78 -- I'm scratching my head a bit. Here is Vincenzo Franco's (my direct ancestor's) birth record, which lists Pietro Franco and Angela Marra as parents: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Reggio+Calabria/Stato+civile+della+restaurazione/Orti/Nati/1825/007693854_004...

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
Oh, I agree that it's not easy -- that's why I wanted to see the record, even just to confirm that I was misreading the name
It still looks like "Angela" to me, but I think we will have to agree to disagree.
