Re: Ficano vs Fricano surnames
I'd guess that this started as the same family a few hundred years back and evolved over time to be distinct. Local dialects at play. You'd want to deep dive into old records to really see. I've got Sicilian surnames that branched a few different times in just the last 400 years and variants are ...

I looked at this yesterday and could read the name "Morena" as well there, and of course "La" but nothing else seemed too clear to me. Just my 2c.

Re: Can you help identify this Italian place name please?
The last word in both this line and the line above seems to be the province, Caserta and "Morena" which I'd guess is a phonetic misspelling of Modena. The village on both lines is difficult to read but if you sound it out and restrict the search area to only places in Modena, I might be inclined to ...

The mother's name is written "Don't Know" on that death record just fyi - will look into this a little bit tonight to see if anything turns up. Whether it's true or not someone on familysearch has his mother's name listed currently as 'Susie Markowitz'. May be worth messaging the user that added ...

Do you have more information on either of them? I don't see the surname Franco in the records for Castel Goffredo (Bocchere) or several other nearby comune.

Not sure that is the correct one, mmogno. Social security record gives his parents as Giuseppe Viti and Antonia Fera.

Start with the 1877 birth and work backwards, finding all children born before her. When the children stop coming you can look for a marriage 0-5 years before the birth of the first child, usually within 0-2. You'll probably need to look page by page if it is before 1865 as these books are often ...

This appears to be a marriage record dated 3 June 1810 between Pietro Ruffino, son of Lorenzo & Rosalia, and Maria lo Cricchio, widow of Vincenzo Veneziano, daughter of Salvatore & deceased Geronima.

I would greatly appreciate a peek if you do happen to get a chance to review the registers. The situation is a little strange but I can elaborate so you have as much info as I do:

Re: Proscetti Translation and Birth Record Dates Confusion
The Feb 27, 1842 date found on the processetti record is not the date of the marriage. It is the date that the extracted record with their dates of birth was prepared by the church official. Their marriage took place on April 7, 1842.

Re: Proscetti Translation and Birth Record Dates Confusion
The 27 Feb 1842 figure is the date of their marriage as the extract was often made to support this document. Where you see 1877 it is actually 1822, this style of '2' was pretty common in handwriting at this time.

Gibellina Parish Records
Does anybody have access to the church records in Gibellina, Trapani? I am trying to locate someone named either Lauria Catanzaro, or Lucia Mangiaracina, who would have been born there some time around 1760. Parents would be Francesco and Agata. Thanks for any help.

Re: Need help deciphering death record of Vincenzo Leta
It's the top left record. Vincenzo Leta died 17 Nov 1899 aged 41, son of deceased Michelangelo & Domenica (Piro?), husband of Paola Di Stefano.
While he was born in Castelbuono, the death occurred and was also registered in Isnello and states he was living in Collesano.
