Ciao a tutti,
I have the same question about writing Italian churches! So many churches here have merged or closed, & maybe in IT too? I've looked at the map of Napoli, but don't know which church to write for info on my bisnonni, I do know he did die there. The diocese doesn't hold those records ...

Hi Christine, I just came back in to check on my older queries . . . saw yours & had to respond. . .
Don't know how "surprising" it is, since mia famiglia came from S. Italia: Napoli, Campagna; & Bagheria, Palermo, Sicily; via San Chirico Raparo, Potenza, Basilicata!

Re: Prepaid return postage from Italy
I had the same problem, sent an E-mail to Prato for my husband's nonno - to apply for IT citizenship - got the same response. This is a reply to all here:
1st, I checked our postoffice & USPS does have "universal reply stamps" But they only apply to "send" to foreign countries? Why is that when a US ...

Re: Ancestry.com is tone deaf on its problems
Hey rp76226
I totally agree with you! I have 2 sites where I posted mia famiglia - on Geneanet & Geni [facebook's answer to genealogy. I also have a limited "guest membership" line on Ancestry.
Ancestry has sent me "Hints" of my husband's bisnonno e bisnonna - both of whom died in Prato, IT. BUT ...

Re: Military Records
Actually I have contacted Ann & follow her. She helped me with the Marriage record [the long story] of my bisnonna e bisnonno, as I had found their Marriage record here, actually some one here sent me a link to Antenati years ago. I've checked her site for military records, but think I'll try it ...

Greetings, just hunting mia famiglia. These folks are SuPeR! They found my bisnonna e bisnonno data & gave me links to both marriage & baptism - got it all in one day! They also traced my husband's nonno, with a link to his birth record. Amazing folks here.

Re: Procedures to write IT Ufficio dello Stato Civile?
Ciao Marty, Liveo & Jennabet,
VIGNOLINI siblings finally solved! I went to the NYC Municipal Archives with my daughter. She was looking for "Alberto" [aka Amberto} VIGNOLINI. Just happened that a "pro" genealogist was there & helped her find an "Alien Case file" ca 1941 under his US name, Alberto ...

Re: Looking for Addresses Otranto, Lecce & Bagheria, Palermo
Sorry I haven't been here for a few years, I was "locked out" for some reason & just got back in.
Thanks for all your help. I did write Lecce Officio de Stato Civile for the DOB of my bisnonno, Ferdinando GRASSI, b 1840, via his [long] marriage record, age 30 in Otranto Lecce Puglia in 1870, that I ...

Re: Procedures to write IT Ufficio dello Stato Civile?
Marty, Livio,
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa!
I just realized on the birth record of Amberto Vignolini, the date, "milleottocentosettant nove" is 1879; NOT 1869! In Italian the number 60 is sessanta, & # 7o is settanta. That means there's still no brother found. Still, I got other info from the ...

Re: Procedures to write IT Ufficio dello Stato Civile?
Marty,
Thanks. I've tried looking page by page. It's a Pain-in-a-neck!!! Because every town, every year has a gazillion pages to look through! AGUH. And, to really see the names, you have to enlarge the page - big time. You'd have to work only on that for months on end - 24/7!
That's why I'm so ...

Re: Procedures to write IT Ufficio dello Stato Civile?
Livio,
Thanks, the names Amberto & Alberto are close, but not the same. Many names are "close" & there are many variants to names all over Italy, my great uncle was "Umberto". Seems like Raffaele & Emilia, for some reason named all 3 of their children with names beginning with A: Amberto, Armida ...
